1.5M Should be Enough for Everyone!
Kerbal Aircraft Expansioneers just presented KSC with the 2st prototype for the newest K380/900 MAX - a giganormous airliner for 1000 Kerbals willing to travel between the major passenger hubs of Kerbin.
Oukey, currently only KSC and Dessert Airfield, but we are confident that sooner new exciting airports will be available!
But... Half of the current runways in Kerbin (KSC) don't have enough clearance for this monstruosity, as the (late) 1st prototype clearly demonstrated...
A crisis was established, an airliner with only one airport able to support it in the whole Planet is nearly useless - market research revealed that demand for Flights to Nowhere would not reach 30% of the plane's capacity.
A Committee was installed to solve the crisis. It was decided that a Public Procurement for the installation of Kerbal Konstructs and subsequent reforms on KSC will be issued to:
- Construct a secondary runway on KSC to be used while the current one is reformed;
- Building of additional infraestructure to support operations on the new runway;
- Reforms of the current runway increasing both width and clearance from any installations;
- Upgrading KSC's tower capacity to deal with multiple runways concurrently.
That's when Bill raised his hand and said, "Bollocks, I have a faster and cheaper solution!", took his tools and scrambled with some other enginers to the SPH where the 2nd prototype was laying.
In the next day the 2nd K380/900 Max prototype took off from KSC for the maiden flight - with all the KSC installations intact for the first time in weeks. He added about 5 feet to the landing gear's height, solving the clearance problem and saving millions of Funds - to the dismay of some contractors.
